MASTERS SHORT COURSE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT SHEFFIELD FRI 28TH SUN 30TH

Jo Corben showed why she is regarded as one of the best masters swimmers in the country with a 5 medal haul at the masters short course national championships held in Sheffield.

Jo took gold in the 100m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley and 800m Freestyle respectively. She also claimed silver in both the 400m Freestyle and the 400m Individual Medley

Michelle beckwith kept up her impressive return to the sport with 5 top 10 finishes. She narrowly missed out on a medal in the 400m Freestyle but made amends by claiming bronze in the 800m Freestyle. She also swam a personal best in the 50m Freestyle clocking a time of 28.78 and the 100m Freestyle in 1.03.75.

Tony Corben also had some good swims in the 200m and 400m Freestyle events earning himself a 7th and 10th place.

Overall Portsmouth Northsea boasted 6 medals and 12 top ten finishes at the event, despite only taking a small squad of swimmers. Coach Lewis Jones said” This was a great effort from the guys, they’ve trained so hard this year despite outside pressure from work and family life. The commitment they show to their sport is second to none and so it’s great to see this reflected in their results.”
