Congratulations to all swimmers. Look forward to seeing you next year. PNSC
A massive thank you to everyone who helped and took the time to be with us at Sainsbury’s on Saturday, I really hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as Intan and I did.
The day was a joint effort by PNSC and Sainsbury, who also provided us with balloons and stickers for us to give away, the children were quite persuasive in getting a donation in exchange for a sticker helping to raise in excess of £600 with PNSC receiving over £400 the difference being a PNSC contribution towards Sainsbury’s Sport Relief fund. We also took the opportunity in promoting the club by giving out “Learn to Swim“ brochures which hopefully will attract some new members.
Fund raising aside, it was a great plus for the club seeing the children from across the squads having fun and all working together, in some cases this was the first time they had even met or had a chance to spend time with their friends outside of the pool; we had to keep reminding them to let the public have a go! Even some of the dads had a go on the Wii (see photo) so kids you know who is playing with your Wii when you not around, a bonus for some of the children was to meet with X- Factor local celebrity Sarah Smith from “Same Difference” and have their photo taken with her.
Finally, I have had some very complimentary feedback from Sainsbury’s with regards to how the event was received by the public, the fun atmosphere that was generated in the store and how well behaved everyone was and that they are a credit to the club and because of this we have also now been invited back again later this year.
Thank You Again
Darren Lee

After a tremendous 7 days at the venue for the 2012 Olympic Swimming Event, Portsmouth Northsea swimmers did both themselves and the club proud with some excellent performances. For those who made finals the swimmers had to contend with very long days of 12 hours from their first warm up at 8am to the finals being swum close to 8pm.
Day 1
Amberley Hoar was the first swimmer from the club to swim in the fantastic facility and she certainly rose to the occasion with a great 3 second PB in the 200 Freestyle (2.24.69) to qualify for the final later in the evening in 5th position. The final did not take place until 8pm which made it a very long day for the athletes but Amberley swam tough to hold her position to finish in an excellent 5th place.
Lauren Steadman opened her weeks racing with a Season’s Best in the 400 Free with 4.56.48 just half a second off her PB to finish in 11th.
Day 2
Again it was Amberley who produced another outstanding swim to take off 2 seconds in the 100 Backstroke with a 1.13.95 to qualify for her second final in 7th place. Lauren also competed in this event but was always playing catch up after a disappointing start to finish in 14th place.
In the final Amberley again held her position by finishing in 7th place.
Day 3
Another season’s best for Lauren in the 50 Freestyle (31.16) meant she missed the final by one place finishing in 9th position.
In the same event Alex Goodman opened his account by smashing his best time which had stood for 2 years with 34.23 to finish in 31st place. Considering only 2 weeks earlier Alex had left hospital after having a serious accident really meant this was a tremendous achievement.
Day 4
Despite setting a new personal best in the 100 Freestyle (1.06.11) Lauren was again to just miss out on the final in 9th place. A real disappointment for Lauren as we both thought that she could certainly swim a lot faster if she had made it, but it wasn’t to be.
Alex Goodman again decided to break his two year old best time by taking a second off in the 100 Freestyle (1.14.60) to finish in 30th position.
Day 5
After setting a Season’s Best in the heats of the 50 Butterfly Alex again improved on this further in the final with a 38.50 where he finished in a great 6th place.
Day 6
With their final swims of the week both Alex & Lauren were just outside their best times but did produce their 2nd fastest ever swims in the 200 Individual Medley. Alex finished in 17th place in 3.14.94 and Lauren in 13th with 2.43.83.
Day 7
Well it might have been the last day of a tiring week but nobody told Amberley Hoar as she went into the final of the 100 Breaststroke to demolish her best time with a 1.23.21 just outside Olympic Qualification by two tenths but Amberley has another chance in April. However there was the added bonus of a fantastic GOLD medal for Amberley.
A big well done to all the guys.
The 2nd and final rounds of trials are in April for the Paralympics and June for the able bodied.
Paul
